Orchids Mandarin Orange Drink

While most kids in America drink sunny delight. There exist another drink that filled the household of Asian Americans, Orchids Mandarin Orange Drink. It is a south korean drink that is best served slightly frozen. The pulps and flavor taste natural, which is in sharp contrast with sunny delight. Unfortunately, this drink is not as prominent in America. This review will give some insight about the drink and discuss its health effects and taste.

No History?

There seems to be no relevant information about this drink, at all. Tracing the source back to its american distributor, CTC Food. I found that the company Orchids seems to manufacturer a wide range of food. I am assuming that this is a copy of the Japanese drink, Sangaria Tsubumi Orange. While I cant be certain, you can probably assume that this is a generic version of that drink. Nonetheless, this is something that is very popular among the Asian Community.

Orchids Mandarin Orange Drink Taste

The taste is something that is very unique. Think of a Japanese Mandarin orange candy and imagine that in a drink form. It has pulp that is delicious and provides an excellent chew when slightly frozen. It also has a hint of tartness but none like that of Sunny Delight.

Nutrition

Like all soft drink, it is not particularly health. The sugar content on it is quite high at 34g. While that is low compared to a soda, the content is only 8 oz, half that of a normal soda. Other than that, this drink contains 400% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

Ingredients

Ingredients are very simple, it is as follow. Water, Mandarin Orange Pulps and Juice 55%, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Natural Flavor, Citric Acid.

Nothing too weird, the only bad thing is the High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Where to Buy Orchids Mandarin Orange Drink

Yea, the only source is to go to your asian supermarket. If youre lucky, they will carry it. I got mines at 168 market but you can also find it at 99 ranch. It is usually obscure or they might have another knock off version called Mandarin Orange Drink.

They all taste the same for the most part. I would just go for the cheapest version.

Chill Before Drink

The best way to drink this is to freeze it for around 20-30 minutes. This way, the pulp will be slightly frozen. This will add a burst of citrus flavor. While you can drink it with ice, you will not get the same effect.

Orchids Mandarin Orange Drink Thoughts

This is a fantastic drink to try. It is a shame that its not as common. The knock off version seems to be dying off as well. I simply don’t see it as much anymore. But if you get a chance to try this drink, it is highly recommended. Asia have a wide variety of drinks that is not available in America. If only we had that same vending machine culture.
