History of Yeo

Yeo was founded by Yeo Keng Lian in the early 1900, FuJian China. He started the company initially to make soy sauce. However, when he immigrated to Singapore, he reestablished his company as Yeo Hiap Seng Sauce Factory. While the company makes a number of sauces and condiments, they are perhaps most famous for their Tetra Brik Aseptic Drink. It is a drink in a plastic container. These drinks are popular among Asian children for the tea, milk and more. Among the drink, the soy bean milk was what really cemented the company.

Yeo Soy Milk Taste

Yeo Soy Milk taste just like soy milk. However, compared to fresh soy milk, it is considerably sweeter. The texture also have a grainy like feel to it. Almost like they did not filter out all the soy bean.

In terms of freshness, it is inferior to the freshly made stuff. Something just does not taste right. Maybe the soy milk gets oxidize after a while. There are no preservative in the ingredient list also. Nevertheless, if you expect the flavor of fresh soy milk, you might be a little dissapointed. However, as a soy milk itself, its still very good.

Health and Nutrition

In terms of health, its not that bad actually. Giving that you drink a reasonable portion size. Per 250ml, you get 22 grams of sugar. Quite a bit less compared to soda. In a can of soda, you will probably get 40-50 grams of sugar. The protein content is also quite high at 5g. Great if you’re a vegetarian.

Ingredient List

In terms of ingredient, its pretty natural. There are no perservative which makes me wonder how they get that long of a shelf life. The real soy milk will only last a week before going bad.

The ingredient list is as follows. Soy Milk, Cane Sugar and artificial flavor.

Where to Buy

You can find Yeo Soy Milk in Asian Supermarket. However, online retailers are starting to get them as well. If your walmart has a sizable asian population, you can find it there as well. They are relatively affordable as well.

Yeo Soy Milk Thoughts

While Yeo Soy Milk is not as good as the fresh made version, its still very good. Its a lot more affordable and the shelf life is a lot better. In terms of health, its great compared to soda. I am most impressed by the protein content. Great if you are vegetarian. If you get a chance, I highly recommend trying it. Its very different from your western soy milk.
