Best Crepe Spreader and Spatula

Making crepes can be a challenge. They need to thin and in tack. However, if you make it too thin, it will tear easily. Luckily, there are dedicated Crepe Spreader and Spatula to help in this task. They lets you control the overall diameter and thickness of the crepe. While the most traditional Crepe Spreader and Spatula is made of wood, there are other alternative such as metal, plastic or even silicone.

Best Crepe Spreader and Spatula List

Below you will find a list of some of the Best Crepe Spreader and Spatula. I have listed them by the material, you should find one that best suits your need.

The ORIGINAL Crepe Spreader and Spatula Set (Best Overall)

This model should suit the need of most household. Their spreader and spatula is made of natural beechwood. There is no varnish or lacquer that can leak onto your food. They come in three different spreader size. This ensure that it will be compatible with any pan that you have. The spreader is also long, thin and easy to use. This is the most traditional crepe spatula and spreader out there.

WMF 1872426030 Profi Plus Crepes Dough Distributor (Best Nylon Crepe Spreader)

If you want something a little more durable, them WMF Crepe Spreader is a great alternative. Instead of wood, it use flexible nylon. The handle is made of 18/10 stainless steel for a beautiful and comfortable finish. Best of all, this is dishwasher safe. You dont have to baby it like the wooden spreader.

Westmark Crepe Spatula (Best Plastic Crepe Spreader)

Looking for a plastice crepe spatula with some flex, then Westmark Crepe Spatula is the one for you. Its soft, wide and thin. You should be able to slip under any crepe and flip it with ease. The handle is also the most comfortable out of all the spatula. This particular model is made in Germany and comes with a 5 year warranty.

Original Crepe Spreader and Spatula – Stainless Steel (Best Metal Crepe Spreader)

Although I advise against metal, this is the best option if you want it. Their metal construction pretty much ensure that it will last forever. The spatula comes with a wooden handle so that it will stay cool to the touch. However, the spreader is all metal. Be sure not to rest it on the pan as it will get hot. I also would recommend that you be extra careful when flipping it. Its easy to tear a hole.

Which Material is Best?

In my opinion, wood is still the best choice for a Crepe Spreader. The material is soft and wont tear the crepe or scratch your pan. However, it does need to be replaced after a while. Metal spreader are the most durable but then can easily tear the crepe.

Nylon is a great alternative if you want something more durable than wood. It is soft enough so it wont tear the crepe. It is also relatively flexible to give you more control over shape of it.

Size of the Spreader

The size of your crepe spreader will affect the overall size of the crepe. If you have a small spreader, then you have to make multiple circular pass. With a larger one, you might only need to do one or two pass. Some of these vendor will offer you multiple size. The only option you have for this is wood.

What to Look for in a Crepe Spatula

Crepe Spatula should be slightly wide and thin. This is to allow you to easily slip under the crepe and flip it. If the spatula is too narrow, you can easily tear it. Handles and ergonomic arent that important, although some will have a comfort grip design. Most will just have a simple stick design.

Thoughts

A crepe spreader and spatula is a critical tool if you intend on making crepe. They will make your crepe paper thin and give you the best texture possible. I personally believe the traditional wooden crepe spatula and spreader is the best. However, they are not as durable as the plastic and metal option. Which is a concern that many have. If that is the case with you, then I recommend going with nylon and even metal.
