Best Silicone Ice Cube Tray

For all of us beverage lover, ice is a game changer. They improve the flavor and quenches our thirst. However, making ice can be a bit of a pain. The plastic one cracks and snaps. Metal can rust and is generally difficult to unmold. Now we have Silicone Ice Cube Tray, they are more durable, flexible and easy to unmold. The Best Silicone Ice Cube Tray is actually a hybrid between pure silicone and plastic. They give rigidity with the flexibility of silicone.

How to Use

Using a Silicone Ice Cube Tray is a little different. Since they are softer, you need a flat surface to keep it level. Models with plastic casing can keep it slightly rigid. This prevents it from spilling out and keep the ice cube even. Models with trays are even better as they keep water from spilling into the freezer.

To unmold it, you twist and turn like a regular plastic ice cube tray. However, after twisting, you need to use your finger. Apply pressure on one point of the tray and it should pop up. For the larger ice cube, you need to put more pressure that you would expect.

The first time you do it is the worse. The Silicone is still stiff and its difficult to unmold. But as you use it, the silicone will loosen up.

For the round one, you fill the bottom half and then cover. Run the water through the top and it should fill up all the way.

Large vs Small vs Round

For smaller ice cube, plastic trays are actually easier to unmold. A simple twist and toss and all the ice will pop out. Its just that it will crack with use.

For larger ice cube, silicone is the best. Its easier to twist and crack the ice. When you go to push it out, the silicone flexibility will actually help.

Generally, I prefer using large ice cubes. They wear down at a slower rate. This means your drink wont get diluted as quickly.

The Round one are cool and people usually use it for Alcohol. There isnt any benefit over the large ice cube. Except that it looks cooler.

Safety

Silicone is food safe so there is no worry about it poisoning you. Utensils such as spatula uses silicone as well. It wont kill you.
