ThoughtsOverall a great all around toaster oven. It can do both traditional baking and air frying. However, the biggest issue is the capcity for air frying. If you want a dedicated air fryer, I recommend the phillips model instead. You can bake bigger item.

What is an Air Fryer?

An air fryer is a toaster oven with a fan. What the fan does is that it circulates the hot air so that it encapsulate heat around the food. What then happens is the hot air will heat up the oil and fat in the food causing it to crisp. In a sense, its not really a deep fry as some adverts will claim, but rather a more efficient way of baking your food.

In a traditional Toaster Oven, the heating element is situated on the top and the bottom of the oven. This creates a similar effect but its not quite as effective. So that simple addition of the fan makes a big difference in how it cooks.

The great thing about air fryer is that you do not have to preheat the oven. The fan will take care of that and circulate the air around the oven.

Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven (Toa-60) Design

This section will discuss the design and features of Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven. We will go over its power, capacity and limitation.

Power

One of the best feature about the toa-60 is simply the power. It uses 1800 watts of power which is the maximum a house can use. Any higher and it will trip the circuit breaker. As such, you will only see the best made appliance with this high of a power rating. Which is especially important in a toaster oven.

Capacity, Air Fryer or Toaster Oven?

This is where the toa-60 faces some challenges. If you want to get this as a purely dedicated air fryer oven, then I recommend you look else where. Only the top portion of the rack is dedicated to air frying. The capacity is quite small on this so you would only be able to fry smaller stuff. Things like french fries and wings are perfect. However, if you want to fry things like thighs and breast, you would be better suited getting a traditional air fryer.

The bottom rack of the oven is more suited for a traditional toaster oven. You can put in 6 slices of bread without any issue. pizza will work great as well. This oven is more of a one stop shop for toaster oven. If you cant decide whether you should get a toaster oven or an air fryer, this combo package lets you have both.

Is Air Frying the Same as Deep Frying?

No, as stated before, air frying is just baking with a more efficient air circulator. When you deep fry, the food in submerged in oil. As the food heat up, the moisture is driven away from the food. Which is why you see it bubble on the surface. This escape of moisture will cause an empty space which oil will take its place. This is known as oil uptake. It is usually directionaly proportional the amount of moisture that is lost. While this may seem bad for the health conscience consumer, this is what makes deep fried food so good.

In an air fryer, the moisture is driven away from surface and the oil crisp up the surface. There is a significantly less amount of oil that is taken. Quite a bit different and the flavor and texture is different, although similar…

What Can You Cook?

You can cook pretty much anything what a oven can cook. Tilapia for example, can be cooked in it but it would be more baked than anything else. If you want a crust, then you can put some panko or bread crump. When the bread crumb dries it will crisp and give it the bake like texture. Toast, wings, frozen pizza and bacon will work as well.

Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven Thoughts

Overall, Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven is not really a dedicated air fryer. But rather, its a combination of traditional toaster oven and a air fryer. The main downside is the capacity for the air fryer. But if you need something that can do both, its a great choice. It has 1800 watts of power and has easy to use control. If you want an all around oven, this is the way to go.
