History of Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen comes from a mix background, her mother is Thai and her farther is of Norwegian Descent. As a child, she moved around a lot until finally settling in California.

Chrissy Teigen is most famous for being the wife of popular pop sing John Legend. Although that is what most people know her for, she was a fairly successful model on a variety of media. Some of which include IGN, Deal or no Deal, Maxim and more. Aside from her modeling ventures, she actually had a tv shows on the cooking channel called Cookies and Cocktails. She also released a book called Cravings: Recipes for All of the Food You Want to Eat a new york time best seller.

Chrissy Teigen Cookware Set Design

This section will discuss the construction and design of Chrissy Teigen Cookware set. We will go over handle, shape and general performance.

Handle

The handle is an all metal design with silicone wrapped around it. The heat choke at the base and the silicone handle ensures that it does not get hot. Usually these design means that there is an lower oven safe temperature. Surprisingly, this set has a pretty high oven safe temperature of 400 degree Fahrenheit.

In terms of ergonomic, it has a slight taper so that its comfortable when you hold it. The soft silicone also means that you wont get fatigued with prolong use. Overall, it is a pretty good handle.

Shape

The shape is also pretty well design. All of the cookware has a flared lip so that it can pour liquid with ease. While the base looks a little narrow in comparison, its still pretty good for what it is. What I am surprised by is the wok like saute pan. Those are perfect for tossing food and stir frys. This is something that you do not really see in these cookware set.

Pieces

While the set says it comes with 12 piece, you really only get 5 piece. The rest is the lid and the two utensils. Manufacturer like doing this so that it looks like you are getting a better value. The utensil is ok, but dont expect it to be anything extraordinary.

Lids

The lids are made of glass with a vented hole on top. It has a maximum oven safe temperature of 350 degree Fahrenheit. I generally do not like glass lids. These are no different. The main reason is that they are susceptible to thermal shock. If it is hot and you run it through cold water, it can shatter. Something that you do not want in your food. A better design would be an all metal lid. While you cant look in, glass lid have the same issue once it steams. On the plus side, the handle is nice and wide. It is easy to grip.

Nonstick Coating

The nonstick coating is Teflon. What is impressive about this is that it uses a three layer nonstick. It cost manufacturer more money to use this grade of nonstick. They tend to last longer than other type. Which is the most important thing about nonstick cookware. It does not matter how expensive the cookware is, once the coating goes, so does the pan. For that reason, it is a good idea to get a durable nonstick.

Caring for Nonstick Coating

There are some things that you should be aware for nonstick coating. For starter, never use metal utensils or nylon scrubber. Little nicks and tears will cause the coating to fail rapidly.

Another thing that you should avoid doing is overheat the pan. By overheating it past 500 degree Fahrenheit, the coating starts breaking down. At temperature of 572 degree and above, it can start releasing toxic fumes. This will cause you feel flu like symptoms called Teflon Flu. This has been known to kill birds, so I would caution if you keep birds as pets.

You can prevent this by always adding oil to a cold pan. The oil will temper the overall heat of the pan. Not only that, you can use the smoke as a guide. If you see smoke from the oil, its time to lower the heat.

Induction Capability

Chrissy Teigen Cookware uses aluminum as its base. Since aluminum does not have a magnetic pull, it cannot be compatible with induction stove top. You can always test to see if your cookware will work on induction with a magnet. If it sticks, then it works. Some manufacturer will stick a stainless steel bottom to make it compatible. Nevertheless, the aluminum construction is a good choice since they conduct heat really well.

Chrissy Teigen Cookware Set Thoughts

Overall, I am fairly impressed by Chrissy Teigen Cookware set. While they are not anything spectacular, they are inline with the other celebrity tv chef. The best thing about this set is the 3 layer nonstick, for that reason, it should last a little longer than your standard nonstick cookware.
