This section will go over the design and features of Calphalon Classic Cookware. For a set of ten, will cost you around 200 dollar. This should be able to let you cook whatever you should need at your house. This review will cut the review into sections from handle, to shape design.


The handle on Calphalon Classic Cookware is well designed and ergonomic. It is flat while slightly rounded to allow for a comfortable grip. By making it flat, this prevents the pot from rotating in your hand. Near the base of the handle, it has a Y shape to prevent heat from being transferred. The stainless steel handle also helps in keeping it cool. On the stove top, the chance of it burning your hand is low. An all metal construction also lets the non stick pan have a higher oven temperature. This set has a oven temperature safe of 450 Degree Fahrenheit. Most non stick cookware has a upper temperature limit of 300 degree Fahrenheit.


The shape of the cookware set is very basic. The skillet is a traditional french skillet. The sidewall is at mid height so it still lets you turn food with ease. This also lets you toss food with your wrist. Skillets with a overly tall side wall prevents liquid from evaporating, this reduces the rate of sauce reduction.

On the sauce pot, those are shape are very basic. It looks like they were all pressed with a machine. None of them have a rolled lip but the sauce pot does have a pinched pouring lip. It looks like these method were done to save money on manufacturing. Nevertheless, it is still effective and it still lets you pour liquid with ease. You might have some trouble with the skillet though.


The lid is a very interesting design. They made it with perforated holes. On the sauce pot, if you turn the holes toward the region with the lip, you can strain liquid this way. The lid is made out of glass, no doubt to let you peer in while cooking. However, these design doesn’t really work. Once steam starts to develop, it will fog up the screen. I would have preferred an all metal lid to help with durability. All the handles are riveted on meaning that it will stay secure for longer. Other manufacturer uses screws to attach the handle but they tend to come loose.

Hard Anodized Non Stick

Instead of a traditional teflon coating these cookware are hard anodized. A teflon coating is applied by sandblasting the pan and then painting the teflon on. It is then baked on to harden the teflon. Hard Anodized cookware is applied via electroplating. This is supposedly more durable than the traditional version. In general, hard anodized cookware is more expensive than the prior.

Both type of non stick face durability issues. Once the non stick coating goes, so does the pan. This cuts down the lifespan of the cookware to roughly 1-2 years. One way to extend the life of the cookware is by never using metal utensils. You should always washing it with the soft side of a sponge. Also never heating the pan over 500 degree is critical, this actually causes the most degradation of the non stick coating. You can regulate the temperature of the cookware by adding oil in a cold pan.

10 Pieces?

When taking into account the pieces of the cookware set, you have to count the lid. Manufacturer often time try to make the number seem higher than it really is. In the 10 piece cookware set, you only really have 6 cookware with 4 lids. These 6 cookware has 2 frying pan, 2 sauce pot, 1 saute and one stockpot. These should let you do all the basic home cookware task. The 14 piece set has slightly larger pots but its not really necessary unless you cook for a crowd.

The cookware is a great value cookware for the average home cook. The price is very cheap for a 10 piece set. It faces durability issue as with all non stick cookware. If you really want something that last, buy stainless steel cookware.

This set is double of what the Classic version cost. There two key differences between these two sets. One its made in america. Two, the cookware are designed so that you can save space. Does that justify the cost? That really depends on your need. We will go deeper into the design and function of these cookware.

Space Saving Handle

These handles are what truly what set these cookware apart. They work in unison with the lid so that they can stack on top of another. The handles have notches so that they will lock onto each other. It is quite a ingenious way of designing them. The lids are also flat unlike a traditional dome lid. This means that you can stack the lid as well.

Other than that, the handle shape is similar to that of the classic. It is flat and round so that you can have a ergonomic grip. Overall, because of the features and the stacking ability, I think these are great cookware.


The shape is almost the same with the classic cookware. The skillet are french design and the pots are basic cylindrical shape. Unlike the classic though, there is no rolled lip, not even the pinched pouring lip. This makes it difficult to pour liquid and it will follow down the side.

Made In USA

This is probably the main reason why its so expensive. The labor in America is much higher than CHina. However, the main issue that I have is durability. The nonstick coating is the biggest issue with all non stick cookware. After one or two years, you should expect to replace it. Some way to prolong the life of the cookware is to prevent over heating it. By adding oil when the pan is cold, you can temper the temperature of the pan. Also never use metal utensils and nylon sponge.

These are great cookware especially if you need to save space. The biggest issue is the cost. Are you willing to spend double the cost of the standard pan? It is made in America so there is that. If you want to support the economy, this is a great choice.

Fully Cladded

Unless Calphalon classic stainless cookware which are disc bottom, these are fully cladded. This means that the cookware has the same thickness from the bottom toe the rim of the pan. This makes the cookware have superior heat distribution. On disc bottom cookware, the sidewall tend to scorch food. But they are also cheaper, around a hundred dollar cheaper.

The triply construction of this cookware is as follow. Stainless Steel, Aluminum and Stainless Steel. The stainless steel is non reactive and it will not stain. The aluminum conducts heat very well and it aids in giving the coookware good heat distribution.


The handle on Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel is very similar to that of All Clad. It has two sharp edge that digs into your hand. This design is horrible and it causes unnecessary fatigue. It also seems like its angled upward at a 45 degree. This makes the pan feel heavier than necessary. A handle with a slight bias upward is the best.

The helper handle is a great addition but it looks poorly constructed. The rivets also looks small but there are four of them. I would have preferred less rivet but a slightly more robust one.

The handles on the lid also look meager and cheaply made. I doubt they have will issue later but still something to consider.


The shape of the pots and pans are all very well designed. They have rolled lip to aid in the pouring of liquid. The frying pan has low flaring side that promotes evaporation of liquid. The sauce pot is also great, very much like those of All Clad. In general, you wont be disappointed with it.


The lids are made with glass. While its good for peering in, when it fogs you cant see anything. I would have preferred a metal lid for durability.

Price and Durability

The price of the cookware is around 100 dollar more than the Classic Version. However, the durability of the triply version is much better than the disc bottom. If you plan on keeping the cookware, I recommend that you stick with the triply one.

This cookware is a good bargain for a triply cookware. There is some obvious cost cutting method, such as the handle. Those handle are also horribly made due to the sharp edge and the angle. However, if you are looking for a triply cookware, they offer a Great Bargain.
